Souths Cares hosted two Junior League clinics during the recent school holidays in South Western Sydney to support children from all abilities to get active and learn some of the fundamentals of Rugby League.
After some challenging months with COVID-19, the Souths Cares team were eager to facilitate the ever-popular holiday clinics which are delivered free of charge. The first holiday clinic was hosted at Waminda Oval, Leumeah followed by a clinic at Hillier Oval, Liverpool with over 150 participants attending across the two days.
The NRL development team supported the clinics, with former NRL star and Souths Cares staff member Rhys Wesser also joining in the fun to share a few tips with the participants.
For the first time, these clinics were also hosted in collaboration with the organisation Heroes with Ability; a not-for-profit organisation which aims to provide interactive and stimulating events and programs that focus on mental and physical health and the wellbeing of people with disability.
Marco Quintao, Co-Founder of Heroes with Ability said the collaboration with Souths Cares was a huge success:
“Heroes with Ability were very humbled and appreciative of being part of the Souths Cares recent Schools Holiday clinics," Quintao said.
"Souths Cares and the Rabbitohs made us feel very welcomed and tailored the activities to meet the unique needs of our participants.”
Crystal Overton, Administration & Program Support Officer at Souths Cares was responsible for the initiative and said the turn out and collaboration was outstanding.
“It was great to see so many kids, from abilities get involved in our holiday clinics and enjoy themselves," Overton said.
"The clinics would not have been successful without the support of the NRL development team and the Heroes with Ability.”
