Get to know Dean Hawkins, a cool, calm and collected young half who is aiming high in 2018.
Background
Dean is an exciting young half, straight out of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Juniors. The 19-year-old played for the Matraville Tigers as a kid and has gone on to represent the Red and Green at every stage of his career.
Career
Hawkins made the leap from Matraville to the Souths’ SG Ball team, before going on to seamlessly slot into the Souths NYC team last season, playing 17 games in the Holden Cup.
Head Coach Anthony Seibold“He had a very consistent season in the under 20s in 2017 and the opportunity in front of him, to train with the top squad and play under 20s and State Cup in 2018, will help his development as a player.”
Style
Much like a young version of Adam Reynolds, Hawkins is a dynamic half who loves to take on the line. A tough player with a strong kicking game, Hawkins aims to take control of the midfield.
How he fits into the squad
Hawkins has a bright future ahead of him and this season will offer depth to the first grade squad but will look to ply his trade in the Intrust Super Premiership for the North Sydney Bears or continue his fine work in the under 20s.
General Manager of Football Shane Richardson“Dean Hawkins is a young half from our juniors who played extremely well for our 20s last year and has a very bright future ahead of him.”
