Another of the Rabbitohs' young Kiwi crop, Jesse Arthars is making an impression during pre-season training at Redfern.
Background
Born in Auckland, New Zealand, Jesse Arthars grew up on the Gold Coast where he played juniors for Keebra Park. Arthars who is at 19-years is making his first step up to first team training and while he is preferably a fullback, Jesse is more than capable at playing on the wing or in the centres.
Career
Jesse joins the Rabbitohs via the Melbourne Storm, where he dominated in the lower grades, becoming the top point scorer in the NYC competition in 2016. He has since progressed to reserve grade, and will be aiming to make his NRL debut in 2018.
Style
Arthars is an athletic fullback with pace similar to Brett Mullins. His strengths lie in his support play with his ability to read the game both defensively and offensively.
Jesse Arthars“The boys have really welcomed me here and the coaches have really helped me with my game, letting me know what I need to be doing on and off the field.”
How he fits into the squad
Arthars will add depth to the full-back position and, at 19, can still play under 20s football. Player Evaluation and Lists Manager Mark Ellison believes the young back is ready for the next step and will most likely feature for North Sydney Bears throughout 2018.
General Manager of Football Shane Richardson“Jesse Arthars is young fullback who is 20 next year we brought him in to add depth in the fullback role he is learning all the time training well terrific attitude from a great system.”
