Greg Inglis will run out for his 28th appearance for Queensland in tonight’s 2016 State of Origin opener at ANZ Stadium – a format that he believes can bring out the best in players.
“It just brings out mental toughness and a lot of character in a lot of players,” said Inglis of the Origin format.
“Origin’s one of those great spectacles of our game. I think it’s what’s inside you – you just have to find it and as I said it tests your character and it tests you as a player.”
Inglis will line up in the Maroon centres this evening, and will be playing against fellow Rabbitohs teammate, Adam Reynolds, who will steer the Blues around the park from halfback for the very first time in his career.
Having played many positions during his career including; fullback, wing, centre and five-eighth, Inglis is pleased with the idea of plying his trade in the centres tonight.
“Going back to the centres and being in that front line – it’s something that I’m happy to do,” said Inglis.
“I’m not disappointed at all (at) not getting that number one jersey.”
