Greg Inglis has described 2018 as a 'massive' season as the South Sydney Rabbitohs Club Captain looks to get back to his dominant best.
With trial games right around the corner, new Head Coach Anthony Seibold and the Rabbitohs will finally get to see some of the fruit of their labours over the past four months of pre-season.
The Grand Old Club kick off their 110th season against English Super League outfit, the Wigan Warriors, at ANZ Stadium on Saturday 17 February before a trip to Mudgee for the Charity Shield clash against the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday 24 February.
While the team are eager to show the strides they have made under Coach Seibold ahead of the Telstra Premiership, Inglis is fully aware that patience is key.
“2018 is going to be a massive season,” said Inglis.
“Every NRL season is. It’s a marathon race not a 100 metre sprint.
“We’ve just got to sit back and take it week to week. We’ll keep ticking boxes slowly and trek along week to week.”
As Club Captain, the star back is not just charged with leading the troops around the paddock on game day. The 31-year-old takes responsibility for monitoring the development of the younger Rabbitohs and making sure that they are taking the right steps towards a successful career in the NRL.
“When I get out onto the field, I try to give the young boys key indicators in what I look for throughout the game and throughout training - it’s obviously a learning curve,” Inglis explained.
Rabbitohs Captain Greg Inglis"The boys are really coming along, gelling together."
“We’ve got your older boys and we’ve got a lot of younger boys who are coming along nicely and training well so it’s going to be an exciting season.”
