South Sydney’s SG Ball (under 18s) and Harold Matthews (under 16s) teams both notched up wins over the Central Coast on the weekend, with the SG Ball doing so by 80-0.
The Matt King-coached under 18s ran in a total of 14 tries, with Phoenix Hunt, Dylan O'Connor, and Campbell Graham all posting hat-tricks, while Mawene Hiroti tallied up a personal haul of 32 points courtesy of his two tries and twelve goals.
King was pleased with the result and is now completely focused on his side’s final round (Round 9) clash against the Western Sydney Academy of Sport at Redfern Oval this Saturday at the Simply Energy High Performance Centre, Redfern Oval.
“It was pleasing to see the boys enjoy their footy over the weekend,” said King.
“We’re constantly going after the standards that we set as a team and I think we went a long to achieving those over the weekend. The defence in particular was tremendous – managing to keep any team to nil is an achievement.
“It’s all about this coming weekend now at Redfern.”
With finals just two weeks away now, the SG Ball side currently sits in fourth position on the competition ladder on 13 points, with Illawarra, Newcastle and Penrith ahead of them, all on 14 points.
The Jason Peterson-coached under 16s meanwhile notched up their win to the tune of 26-14, with Raine Dellow scoring a double in the process.
The Harold Matthews side currently occupies 11th place on the competition ladder on seven points – the eighth-placed Balmain Tigers ahead on 9 points.
