NCAP delivers for Aboriginal candidates

Souths Cares' New Careers for Aboriginal People (NCAP) program continues to achieve great outcomes for Aboriginal candidates, with the story of Joshua Caselli (aged 19) highlighting the program's success.

Joshua has overcome plenty of challenges along his journey to employment. At high school Joshua was a bright and high achieving student, however, after leaving high school he suffered from depression and anxiety, which quickly lost his confidence.

Joshua tried a number of labouring and warehousing roles, however, these jobs did not last, which further dented his confidence and self-belief.

Joshua signed up to the New Careers for Aboriginal People for a fresh approach to finding employment. He worked closely with his Employment Advisor to develop a career pathway based on his strengths, passions and interests.

With the support of Souths Cares, Joshua secured an Administration Traineeship at Ability Options in Mt Druitt. In this role Joshua is responsible for greeting clients, booking appointments, data entry and administration tasks.

Joshua is approaching two months of employment at Ability Options and couldn't be happier. 'I love this job as I get to meet new people each day. I'm also learning new skills and working in a team environment which is challenging but really rewarding' Joshua explained.

Souths Cares Employment Advisor, Chantelle Young explained helping young people like Joshua find employment was a rewarding part of her job.

'It makes me proud to see a young person enjoying their work and making a valuable contribution to their workplace. I'm sure Joshua will continue to grow in this role' Chantelle explained.

The New Careers Program is supported by the NSW Department of Industry.
