Sar Chance knew there was one thing she had to get done during the Christmas break, renew her husbands Rabbitohs Membership.
While our Membership team assisted Sar in the renewal process, the Rabbitohs were honoured to hear that her husband, devoted Rabbitohs Member and Royal Australian Navy Navigation Officer, Lieutenant Stuart McPherson, was currently serving on HMAS Arunta on deployment in the Middle East.
“I have been a member for 12 years now, but a supporter since I was four years old, so going on 36 years,” said McPherson.
“I am a Rabbitohs supporter because they are a family.
“There is no other club in the NRL, or the world with as much pride and passion as the Rabbitohs.
“The history, the stories, the legends. I bleed Cardinal and Myrtle and ride the highs and lows with the boys. I am always proud of their efforts on the field and even more so for all the things they do off the field and for grass roots Rugby.”
Never leaving home without his Rabbitohs paraphernalia, McPherson currently has quite the collection of gear on board.
“I have my 2004 Home jersey signed by the great Maltese falcon himself, as well as my Rabbitohs Santa hat, we were at sea for Christmas after all, and every day is Christmas as a Rabbitohs fan.
“I also have my Rabbitohs ball cap, and have asked for a Rabbitohs quilt to be made and sent up here by the wonderful people at Aussie Hero Quilts, who give of their time and expertise so generously as a show of support to all deployed troops.”
McPherson is not the only Rabbitohs Member on board, with equally passionate supporters Dominique Yeomans and Kurtis Ashford joining him when they are lucky enough to watch the footy on the satellite TV.
Returning to Australia in July 2017, McPherson hopes to make it to a game to cheer on the team in person after what would be a nine month stint at sea.
“I am looking forward to getting back to Australia in time for finals footy and cheering on the mighty Bunnies, hopefully into the GF, and this time I have vowed no matter the expense I will be there in person come hell or high water and work will not get in the way.”
We look forward to seeing you at a game Lieutenant McPherson!
