The South Sydney Rabbitohs will return to Cairns for the first time since 2018 when they take on the North Queensland Cowboys in a pre-season match at Barlow Park on Saturday 19 February, 2022, at 6pm AEST (7pm AEDST).
The Rabbitohs played in Cairns in six consecutive seasons between 2013 and 2018, with their last meeting there being a 21-20 victory over the Cowboys.
Those same sides will do battle again as they both prepare for round one clashes in the NRL Premiership less than a month later.
The Rabbitohs will be fielding some of their up-and-coming stars and new recruits in this match as the players look to put their best feet forward to secure a spot in the Rabbitohs’ Charity Shield team a week later before taking on the Brisbane Broncos in round one.
The Rabbitohs will hold a week-long training camp in Cairns in the lead up to the pre-season match, including opportunities for Members and supporters to meet the team.
“This will be an important game for our squad as players show their wares leading into the early rounds of the competition,” Rabbitohs Head Coach and former Northern Pride Head Coach, Jason Demetriou said.
“I spent many seasons at the Northern Pride and understand how passionate the people of Cairns and the surrounding districts are about their Rugby League.
“This will be a great chance for them to come out and show their support for the Rabbitohs which was built over those six previous seasons, as well as the local club in the Cowboys.
“We’re looking forward to getting up there into camp and then putting on a show for the people of Cairns.”
Tickets for the Cowboys clash go on sale Thursday at 1pm. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. Tickets start at $25 for adults, $10 for juniors and $60 for a family pass.
