Samantha Jade to Rock nib Stadium in Aid of You Can Youth Cancer Centre

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced that renowned Sony Music recording artist, Home and Away star and Western Australia’s own Samantha Jade will be performing as the feature artist as part of the pre-game build up to the South Sydney vs Gold Coast Titans National Rugby League Premiership match which will be played at Western Australia’s premier rectangular sports stadium, nib Stadium on Sunday 5 June, which will support the You Can Youth Cancer Centre.

$3 from every ticket sold to the game will be donated to the You Can Youth Cancer Centre, an organisation of which Samantha Jade is a passionate Ambassador.

You Can provides services and an environment of support for young people fighting cancer. Proudly established by the Sony Foundation, the centre is located in Perth’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Samantha Jade’s performance and the support of You Can was announced today by South Sydney’s Acting CEO Shannon Donato, South Sydney player John Sutton and NRL WA General Manager John Sackson at nib Stadium in Perth.

Mr Donato was very excited to see the Rabbitohs returning to Perth in 2016, along with the support of Samantha Jade and Sony Music, enabling the Rabbitohs to donate $3 from every ticket sold to You Can.

“This will be the eighth consecutive year that South Sydney has brought one of its home games to Perth and we’re all looking forward to getting over here to take on Queensland’s Gold Coast Titans,” Mr Donato said.

“We’re equally excited about the pre-game performance of Samantha Jade and the fact that we can make a tangible donation to You Can and the Sony Foundation, with $3 from every ticket being donated to support young people fighting cancer.

“If we can attract a similar or bigger crowd to that which we have in recent seasons here at nib Stadium, we will be making a donation in the vicinity of $50,000 to $60,000 to You Can which is absolutely fantastic.

“By turning up to this game, sports fans in WA will be able to support a wonderful cause such as You Can, and they will also see some of the world’s best Rugby League talent in the flesh here in Perth.

“We feel that by bringing the elite players to Perth for the past eight years, along with the fantastic work of John Sackson and his team at NRL WA, we have helped pave the way for the Australia vs New Zealand Test match which will be played at this very ground in October.

“We’re delighted to be bringing our eighth home game to nib Stadium in June and we can’t wait to see the sports fans of WA turn out in support of the game and You Can.”

Sony Foundation CEO, Sophie Ryan, said: “We are thrilled to have the South Sydney Rabbitohs supporting Sony Foundation’s youth cancer project, You Can.

“Gaining awareness and support is crucial to enable Sony Foundation to continue building these You Can centres and reaching more young Australians diagnosed with cancer.”

Rabbitohs player John Sutton was equally as buoyant about the game.

“This is one of the games each year that boys look at when the draw comes out as we all love coming across to Perth to play,” Sutton said.

“It gives us a chance to come across and spend some quality time together ahead of a big game against the Titans.

“I’ll be fighting the clock to be fit for this game as I injured my ‘pec’ earlier this year, but nonetheless this is game the whole squad looks forward to.

“It’s particularly special for Bryson Goodwin who grew up in WA, so hopefully the Perth people can get out and support him and take us as their favourite NRL team having played here for eight years.

“I also can’t wait to see Samantha Jade perform. She played before one of our games in Sydney a few years ago but we didn’t see it as we were getting ready to play, so if I’m not able to take the field against the Titans, at least I’ll be able to take in her performance which is supporting a great charity in You Can.”

NRL WA General Manager John Sackson said he was delighted to welcome the South Sydney Rabbitohs back to Perth for the eighth consecutive season, and at the same time, to welcome the Gold Coast Titans for their first visit to nib Stadium.

“These big NRL events in Perth not only feed the appetite of the growing number of Rugby League fans in WA, but also contribute significantly to grass roots development via engagement with local stakeholders including juniors, volunteers, coaches, referees, sponsors and other West Australians that benefit through involvement with the elite levels of the game,” Mr Sackson said.

VenuesWest CEO David Etherton said that the redevelopment of nib Stadium by the State Government has provided Perth with a world class rectangular stadium.

“VenuesWest prides itself on providing venues of the highest standard, able to host major national sporting events such as this,” Mr Etherton said.

“We look forward to welcoming the Rabbitohs back to their home away from home when they take on the Gold Coast Titans.

“I’m delighted that the people of Perth have the opportunity to experience world class Rugby League in their home town. We look forward to many more NRL matches being played at nib Stadium.”

International stars of the game such as Greg Inglis (Australia), Sam Burgess (England), Greg Bird (Australia), George Burgess (England), Alex Johnston (Australia), Josh Hoffman (New Zealand), Thomas Burgess (England), Kirisome Auva’a (Samoa) and WA’s own Bryson Goodwin (New Zealand) are all set to take the stage at nib Stadium in what promises to be an exciting display of Rugby League, in a prelude to Western Australia’s first Rugby League Test match between Australia and New Zealand at nib Stadium in October.

Fans can purchase a NRL Double Pass this year, giving them tickets to this game and the Australian vs New Zealand Test at nib Stadium on Saturday 15 October, one of the only ways Test tickets are currently available to purchase. Tickets available at www.ticketmaster.com.au/Rabbitohs.
