Souths Cares celebrates year of success for Aboriginal Employment Programs

Souths Cares celebrated another successful year for Aboriginal Employment Programs with a Christmas BBQ to wrap up the Gift of Giving campaign.

Souths Cares Ambassador Nathan Merritt took charge of the tongs at the Aboriginal Catholic Service in Emerton, with Souths Cares Employment and Training Advisors handing out Christmas presents to children.

With 70 Aboriginal candidates from Western Sydney successfully placed into employment, 2017 was a year to celebrate for the New Careers for Aboriginal People (NCAP) initiative.

One of these recent success stories is Debbie Roberts (pictured above) who was supported by NCAP Western Sydney to obtain employment in August as a labourer with the company Constructive Workforce.

Souths Cares Employment and Training Advisor, Chantelle Young (pictured above) explained she was thrilled with Debbie’s efforts in achieving her goals.

"Debbie had to overcome a few challenges before securing her current role as a labourer," explained Ms Young.

"I am really proud of her determination to overcome these barriers. It’s been more than three months since Debbie began this role, and since starting work she hasn’t looked back!"

Other success stories for NCAP Western Sydney include Darren, Paul, Kenny, Allan and Caleb (pictured above with Souths Cares staff) who started construction roles with the company Mutliplex.

The NCAP program is also delivered in South Western Sydney. Since the initiative began in 2015, Souths Cares has supported over 300 Aboriginal candidates to gain employment. The NCAP Program is supported by NSW Department of Industry and KARI.
