Souths Cares Community Carnival Engages Over 2,100 Students

Souths Cares’ Community Carnival was hosted last week, with over 2,100 primary and high school students from South-East Sydney, the Inner West and South-West Sydney completing Rabbitohs Wellbeing Workshops.

The annual event involves the Rabbitohs playing squad teaming up with Souths Cares to co-deliver Rabbitohs Wellbeing Workshops and share important health and wellbeing messages. Workshops covered a diverse range of health and wellbeing content areas including Healthy Relationships, Gratitude, Tackle Bullying, Nutrition and eSafety.

20 members of the Rabbitohs first grade squad participated in this year’s Community Carnival, with students from 10 schools enjoying the opportunity to engage with the players and share some special moments throughout the day.

Cameron Murray and Campbell Graham visited Marcellin College to deliver a workshop on Healthy Relationships, with the school inspired by the words of two of the College’s former students who have become great role models and leaders within the Rabbitohs playing group.

“It was great to return to Marcellin College, connect with the youth and share positive messages about what a healthy relationship looks like”, Cameron said.

At nearby St Mary–St Joseph Catholic Primary School in Maroubra, students learnt about strategies to identify and respond to bullying, with Latrell Mitchell, Tom Burgess and Yileen Gordon openly sharing their personal experiences and insights with the school.

The School’s Principal, John Farrell explained the anti-bullying and inclusion messages closely aligned with the school’s philosophy.

“There was incredible excitement at St Mary-St Joseph Primary School during the visit of Latrell, Tom and Yileen.

Their message of respect and 'Make every day, not just a great day for you, but also for the people around you', was powerful and reinforced the key values of our school”, John said.

Souths Cares would like to acknowledge and thank all the schools that participated in the 2023 Community Carnival – Alexandria Park Community School, Christian Brothers Lewisham, James Busby High School, Marcellin College, Marrickville West Public School, Matraville Soldiers Settlement Public School, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School, SEDA College, St Mary-St Joseph Catholic Primary School and St Pius Catholic Primary School.

The Rabbitohs Wellbeing Program is proudly supported by the Ian and Shirley Norman Foundation.
