Souths Cares and Rabbitohs legend Nathan Merritt brought smiles, happiness and laughter to the Windgap Foundation yesterday as the organisation launched the ‘Gift of Giving’ Christmas campaign.
The Windgap Foundation is a disability service which provides people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to reach their full potential through employment, training, accommodation and community participation.
Handing out Christmas gifts for all clients and taking photos with a Rabbitohs’ legend, the day was full of laughter and cheer, especially when practising some Rugby League skills with Nathan Merritt.
Brooke Smith, from the Windgap Foundation explained the impact of today’s visit from Souths Cares was massive for the clients of their service.
“It means everything for our clients. A lot of them don’t have much family or support, and having Souths Cares visit us- especially with so many Rabbitohs fans is really special” Brooke explained.
Talking about the visit, Souths Cares Ambassador Nathan Merritt, says that the day out is all about bringing Christmas joy and getting people to have fun.
“Overall it’s been a great day. We’ve been able to put a lot of smiles on people’s faces and that’s what it is all about. It’s Christmas time and we want to see people happy and I think we definitely achieved that today.”
Souths Cares will continue to visit schools and community groups over the next two weeks for the ‘Gift of Giving’ Campaign.
