Rabbitohs player, John Sutton, visited the You Can Youth Cancer Centre in Perth this weekend to see the organisation’s impact on patients firsthand.
You Can provides services and an environment of support for young people fighting cancer. Proudly established by the Sony Foundation, the centre is located in Perth’s Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
In support of the Centre, $3 from every ticket sold to today’s game against the Titans in Perth will be donated to the Centre.
Sutton enjoyed time with patients, James and Emma during his visit, to talk about their experiences and the way that You Can has helped them in their fight.
“Almost invariably as soon as they walk in, it doesn’t feel like a hospital, and so it allows us to engage with them (patients) and get to know them a little bit so that we can work out what parts of the cancer treatment and experience are most challenging for them,” said You Can Service Manager, Meg Plaster.
“It’s a space that allows us to engage with young people in an environment that they feel much more comfortable in than in a hospital.”
