Sam Burgess is careful to not make any predictions for the season ahead with the hype of the rugby league season in full swing.
“You can have as much knowledge as you want but you’ve still got to go out there and defend the plays,” said Burgess.
“We are just concentrating on ourselves, it’s the start of a new season and we are starting on a fresh page.”
“It’s a new year, I’ve only got one game to go off which was the Charity Shield a few weeks ago, things to work on but overall feeling good.”
Excited to get back out on the footy field, Burgess is looking to hit the ground running on Friday night describing the reality of another season kicking in.
“Big week this week and look to hit the ground running on Friday night,” said Burgess.
“It’s exciting that round one is back around, it feels like two minutes ago it was the end of last season so everyone’s pretty excited.”
With the loss of Adam Reynolds to appendicitis, Burgess is confident in the ability of his teammates to step up into the halfback position.
“Obviously we will miss him but we’ve got some players there that can come in and do a good job so it’s a good opportunity for somebody else.”
On top of praising his mates in the sheds, Burgess also commends his wife Phoebe in her support with his juggling act of fatherhood and playing a professional sport.
“It’s amazing but also a challenge as well. My wife has been quite amazing the last few weeks especially last night, bit of a restless night but she did a great job and let me get some sleep so I’m lucky.”
