On Friday, students from Souths Cares’ Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) and Liverpool Opportunity Hub programs attended their first industry of the year to Bodyfit at Miranda. The excursion was well attended with students from Casula High School, Goal College, Liverpool Boys High School, Miller Technology High School and South Sydney High School eager to learn about career pathways in the fitness industry.
The excursion kicked off with an engaging introduction and tour of the facility from Bodyfit staff member Bria Alberga, who explained the different components of cardio, strength and functional fitness spaces.
After the tour, students were given time to explore the gym, trying out different machines and learning how to use them with the correct technique. Many students took advantage of this time to practice using various fitness tools, gaining hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of how to incorporate fitness into their daily routines.
Brittney Simpson, Mentor with the Nanga Mai Marri Program explained the visit had inspired students to think about their own health and the potential to help others through a career in the fitness industry.
Brittney Simpson, Nanga Mai Marri MentorAs mentors we aim to provide participants with opportunities that broaden their perspectives and inspire them. Visiting Bodyfit enabled our students to think about their own health and fitness whilst also considering why a career in the fitness industry could be a great option to pursue.
After completing the tour and spending some time training in the gym, the group gathered in the main reception area for a Q&A session with Joe Whaitiri, one of Bodyfit's experienced personal trainers.

Joe shared his story of becoming a personal trainer, discussing his passion for fitness and how he built his career. He also highlighted the numerous benefits that come with being involved in the fitness industry such as the ability to inspire others, improve health, and promote overall well-being.
Enos Purcell is a Year 12 student at Goal College who has also secured work experience with Bodyfit in Glebe. Enos stated he enjoyed the opportunity to check out another Bodyfit facility.
"It was great to see how they do things at Bodyfit Miranda and learn more about the health and fitness industry. I loved hearing about Joe’s journey in the industry and would love to get into a career in health, fitness or sport after I finish Year 12", Enos said.
The excursion concluded with students given merchandise packs from Bodyfit to support them on their own fitness journeys.
