Throughout September, Souths Cares celebrated the achievements of Year 12 students from the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program, Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Goal College who successfully completed their final year of high school.

This year a total of 55 students will gain their High School Certificate from the three Souths Cares programs, representing a great achievement for each and every student who has worked hard throughout their 13 years of schooling.

Allistar Flanders, a Mentor with the Nanga Mai Marri Program expressed his pride in seeing the students reach this significant milestone.

I couldn’t be more proud as a Mentor to see our students receive their High School Certificate. Watching them complete this life milestone is such a rewarding moment.

In 2024, the Nanga Mai Marri program had Year 12 graduates from nine high schools including Alexandria Park Community School, Brigidine College, Goal College, JJ Cahill Memorial High School, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College, Marcellin College, Marrickville High School, South Sydney High School and Tempe High School.

The Rabbitohs Year 12 class at Goal College included 16 graduates this year, with Jack Lawrence having the honour of delivering a unique Acknowledgement of Country at the Graduation Ceremony which was created with the help of his mother. In addition to his High School Certificate, Jack received the Goal College Ambassador’s Award and a scholarship to UNSW, which were fitting rewards for his hard work and dedication to his education.

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub’s 2024 graduates hailed from six high schools including Ashcroft High School, Casula High School, Good Samaritan Catholic College, Hoxton Park High School, John Edmondson High School and Liverpool Girls High School.

Rhys Wesser, Careers and Education Pathways Advisor with the Liverpool Opportunity Hub emphasised the importance of completing Year 12 as a foundational step towards future success.

Completing Year 12 is an important stepping stone in a young person's life. Having an HSC will be a great foundation for their future education, training and employment pathways.

To mark these achievements, Souths Cares hosted a special event for Year 12 graduates at the Rabbitohs' Round 27 NRL match and have been enjoying the opportunity to attend individual school's graduation ceremonies at the end of Term three.

The Souths Cares team looks forward to continuing to mentor School graduates as they transition into further tertiary education, training and/or secure employment opportunities. With the ongoing support of their mentors, the class of 2024 are well-prepared for the next chapter in their lives.
