The South Sydney Rabbitohs are proud to celebrate the announcement of Charlie Gallico as the 2024 Westfield Local Hero, recognised for his incredible dedication to improving the lives of others in his local community.
Charlie’s nomination came as no surprise to those who know him. He regularly visits sick children in hospitals, supports Indigenous youth, and actively participates in community events. His lifelong commitment to helping others, combined with his unwavering generosity and kindness, has touched countless lives, making him a true pillar of the community.
In a special event held at Westfield Eastgardens, Charlie was awarded a $20,000 grant, which will go towards Souths Cares, the charity of his choice. This funding will help pay for four leadership and cultural camps for Indigenous youth, furthering Charlie's mission to make a lasting impact.
The Westfield Local Heroes program shines a spotlight on individuals across Australia and New Zealand who make significant contributions to their communities, and Charlie Gallico is a shining example of such a hero.
Alisha Parker-Elrez, CEO of Souths Cares“Charlie’s generosity will make a lasting impact, enabling us to support individuals and families through our programs. This funding will help us continue to create opportunities whilst providing essential resources, inspiring positive change".
Nominations are assessed by selection panels against a set criteria to create a shortlist of three finalists per Westfield Centre.
Congratulations to Charlie and to all the finalists for the important contributions they make to the local community.
