On Thursday, the Liverpool Opportunity Hub hosted their third annual Community Consultation Workshop at Western Sydney University, with a great turnout from teachers, students, parents, industry partners and the local community.

Eight of the Hub’s partnering schools had representatives attend the event including Ashcroft High School, Ashcroft Public School, Busby Public School, Casula High School, Lawrence Hargrave School, Liverpool Girls High School, Lurnea High School and Prestons Public School.

There was also a strong contingent of community and industry partners represented at the event including Australian Defence Force, Belgravia Leisure, Endeavour Energy, Liverpool Aboriginal Education Consultative Committee and Western Sydney University.

The event commenced with an afternoon tea, followed by an Acknowledgement of Country, stakeholder introductions and a presentation from the Hub team about Term 1 priorities and the structure of the program for 2024. The attendees then broke into smaller focus groups, to explore and discuss some of the key issues impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people within Liverpool LGA, as well as brainstorm new ideas about how the Hub could better support program participants.

The focus groups came up with some valuable insights and ideas which will be incorporated into the Hub’s programming for this year.

Liverpool Opportunity Hub Program Coordinator, Kalinda Bolt explained consulting and collaborating with community was an important aspect of the Hub’s service delivery.

Kalinda Bolt, Liverpool Opportunity Hub Program Coordinator

It was great to see a large number of students, teachers, parents, community members and industry partners attend our event. It’s important for us to consult with community and ensure student’s voices are heard and they have ownership of the program.

2024 will be another huge year for the Liverpool Opportunity Hub, with major activities including industry visits, four leadership and cultural camps, an Education, Employment and Health Wellbeing Expo, school holiday programs, cultural workshops, education/employment workshops as well as holistic mentoring support for each student.

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub is proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
