On Thursday, Liverpool Opportunity Hub hosted the second instalment of the Liverpool School’s Touch Football Gala Day.

Building upon the success of the inaugural event hosted earlier in the year, the Touch Football Gala Day had six schools in attendance with Ashcroft High School, Ashcroft Public School, Busby Public School, Casula High School, Liverpool Boys High School and Lurnea High School taking the fields at the iconic Hillier Oval.

Despite some sweltering weather conditions, students had a great time and impressed the Souths Cares team with their skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. Zac Makelim, Program Mentor with the Liverpool Opportunity refereed on the day and was impressed by the student’s efforts.

All the games I refereed were really close and competitive, with a few draws and a couple of games coming down to the wire. I was very impressed with how hard each team worked for each other and the spirit in which the games were played.

An important part of the Touch Football Gala Day’s objectives were to provide opportunities for students to build connections with new peers in their community and foster collaboration between local schools.

Rhys Wesser, Careers and Education Pathways Advisor for the Liverpool Opportunity Hub explained the Gala Day achieved these objectives and was a great community event.

The event provides the perfect opportunity for our students to have fun and build connections with other young people in local schools. Team sports such as Touch Football are amazing vehicles for personal growth and creating positive relationships within the community.

Throughout the day, Souths Cares mentors kept a keen eye on each team as they judged which players had demonstrated the values of teamwork, respect and effort. Congratulations to Rory from Ashcroft High School, Trae from Ashcroft Public School, Shamailah and Martino from Busby Public School, Chloe from Lurnea High School and Casey from Liverpool Boys High School who all received awards on the day.

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub is proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
