On this day in 1998, Souths Junior Ian Roberts announced his retirement from the NRL.
Ian Roberts was as tough as they came and after coming through the ranks in the Souths Juniors system, Roberts played over 60 games for the Rabbitohs before venturing to Wigan, the Sea Eagles and then finished his career with the Cowboys.
A forward leader, Roberts represented both New South Wales and Australia and was voted on the bench for the Rabbitohs Dream Team.
