The inaugural squad of the Play Her Way program are nearing the end of their training block and the growth in skill development, fitness and teamwork from the squad has been nothing short of inspiring.
The program has been an incredible opportunity for these young female athletes to develop their skills, confidence, and passion for sport. Through a structured and holistic training approach, participants have improved in key areas such as passing, speed, field positioning, defence, teamwork, and tackling techniques. More than just skill-building, the program has fostered a strong sense of camaraderie, creating lifelong friendships among the players.
One of the standout aspects of Play Her Way is its emphasis on safe tackling techniques, ensuring that players develop both strength and safety awareness on the field. Additionally, the program focuses on teamwork, teaching young athletes how to support one another and work cohesively as a unit.
Erin Geddes, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator"We’ve seen incredible growth in these girls in a short time. Already impressive athletes, it's been rewarding to help hone their skills. Most importantly, launching this movement has created pathways for players and aspiring female coaches while spotlighting strong female role models in sport."
Beyond athletic development, Play Her Way is also committed to creating pathways for female coaches, ensuring that women have leadership opportunities within the sport. This initiative not only benefits current players but also builds a strong foundation for future generations of female athletes.
A key component of the program is education in healthy eating for performance, teaching participants how nutrition fuels their bodies for optimal athletic achievement. Parents have been thrilled with the well-rounded approach:
Parent of a participant“We have loved the holistic approach to training that South Cares has taken to our daughter’s athletic journey. They have not only provided physical training but also goal setting, nutrition, and amazing role models.”
Play Her Way is more than a training program—it is a movement that empowers young female athletes, fosters leadership, and builds a community of strong, skilled, and inspired women in sport.
