The newest recruits of the Rabbitohs Wellbeing team hit the ground running in Term 3, delivering 31 workshops to 3,268 students from schools across greater Sydney. With the team visiting schools from within the Rabbitohs heartland right out to Western Sydney and every where in between.

Aligned with the Australian Curriculum the Rabbitohs Wellbeing program covers physical, mental and social health issues including nutrition, mental health, online safety, physical fitness, bullying and racism.

Utilising our team of presenters and ambassadors’ extensive knowledge in these areas combined with their lived experience, Souths Cares deliver engaging and interactive workshops for the students with the intent of leaving them with practical tools to maintain a healthy life.

Erin Geddes joined the team as the Program Coordinator this term bringing a passion for public health and extensive experience within the fitness, nutritional science and mental health spaces.

Unfortunately, our kids are facing a silent health crisis in relation to physical activity and nutrition. Realistically, this is largely preventable with simple lifestyle changes and our Rabbitohs Wellbeing Workshops are a great kicking off point in facilitating that change.”

In addition to our in school workshop based program, we also provided weekly before school activity programs in two local primary schools focused on getting kids moving to kickstart their day. Another of our new recruits Lindsay Munro, who has come on board as our Program Support Officer has taken the lead on this program with over 40 students participating each week. All those involved agreed it was a great way to start their day.

The final piece of the wellbeing puzzle in term 3 was the homework club hosted onsite in the Souths Cares classroom. Running two afternoons per week within the school term and with the guidance of tutors, we support students with homework and assessment completion and engage them in additional educational activities and games.
