Cartwright Public School and Gulyangarri Public School kicked off their workshops in Week Three of Term Four, with students spending time building rapport with Souths Cares Mentors before completing a cultural jewellery making workshop – enabling students to represent and wear their culture with pride.

Zoe runs highly interactive workshops and the kids love chatting to her and learning about and sharing culture. It's great to see our Aboriginal students growing in confidence and being able to share culture with their peers.

Busby Public School commenced workshops in Week Five, which began with An Acknowledgement of Country by one of the students, followed by an Indigenous Jersey workshop where students represented their identity and culture through art. The visit concluded with a game of touch football, with plenty of talent on display amongst the students.

It’s exciting to have three new schools come on board with the Opportunity Hub this term. I’ve enjoyed getting to know these students and look forward to supporting them as they learn more about culture and continue their education journeys.

The Opportunity Hub team will continue workshops throughout Term Four, with upcoming topic areas for primary schools including cooking with traditional Aboriginal bush spices, goal setting with vision boards and learning traditional Indigenous games.

The program is currently taking new referrals from schools within Liverpool LGA, for more information see Liverpool Opportunity Hub Info or contact [email protected].

The Liverpool Opportunity Hub is proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
